Making a coffee shop iced coffee at home

If you're someone who enjoys the taste of a Starbucks iced coffee, you can make it at home using MONIN syrup. By adding a splash of MONIN syrup to your cold coffee at home you can mimic the taste of your favourite coffee shop's signature iced coffee recipes.

Reasons to Make Iced Coffee

Coffee enthusiasts love their caffeine boost all year round, but during summer, a refreshing coffee over ice hits the spot when hot drinks are less appealing. It's the perfect way to kick-start a summer day or to energise in the afternoon heat. You can experiment with the flavours of a simple syrup, such as cinnamon, vanilla, or even salted caramel, or try something more adventurous like lavender or morello cherry to enhance the taste of your regular coffee. By blending MONIN syrups, which are available in a wide range of flavours such as roasted hazelnut syrup, caramel syrup and vanilla syrup with iced coffee results in a delicious and refreshing drink, making summer days even better.

Choosing a Glass or Cup

When it comes to making the perfect iced coffee drink, the type of glass or cup you choose to use can make a big difference. Not only does it add to the presentation of the coffee drink, but it can also help you achieve that quintessential coffee shop look.

A tall glass is an excellent choice for showcasing the different layers of your drink, from the coffee at the bottom to the light, frothy milk on top. For a more rustic look, a mason jar provides a charming touch and can be decorated with ribbon or twine.

Preparing the Iced Coffee

To begin the preparation of your iced coffee, simply add some ice cubes to your chosen glass. This step is crucial, as the ice cubes cool the hot water and keep it refreshing for longer. You can use regular ice cubes or even coffee ice cubes to avoid diluting the taste of the fresh coffee.

To make the hot coffee, you'll need to start by preparing 30ml of your chosen type of coffee using double espresso, coffee beans, instant coffee granules, or pre-ground coffee of your choice. Using a coffee maker can make this step easier.

Once you've brewed your coffee, amplify the coffee flavour and give it an exciting twist by adding some delicious MONIN syrup. We recommend 3 teaspoons of MONIN syrup, or adjust to your taste. There are a variety of flavours like honeycomb, popcorn or hazelnut if you like a nutty taste, which work well. If you want your hot coffee to be slightly sweet, you can add more syrup to achieve the desired sweet taste you enjoy.

Once you've added the syrup, you can choose to add cold water or 50ml milk to your strong coffee, depending on your preference. Cold water can be used for a milder taste, while cold milk can add a creaminess. Don't be afraid to experiment with different types of milk alternatives like almond milk, condensed milk or coconut milk. Then sit back and enjoy your refreshing cup of coffee.
